El Niño, Transport & the Holidays: NetScaler in Washington DOT -

Mother Nature, just in time for the holidays, has this "gift" given by the dreaded "El Niño" phenomenon , Uhh, thanks? I think, socks or a fruitcake could be better stocking stuffers. But I digress.

I pulled last summer to California, the drought and water shortages have for many at the top of the. weather gurus are predicting a bad El Niño that could threaten western coast with severe flooding and landslides this winter. And here it is. There was a constant rain in the last 24 to 48 hours. Despite the rainy season, we have to come all the more to work, and wet the same traffic, lots of it.

(rain are days when it doesn 't far less frequently) for the people in Washington State, wet weather is commonplace. The Washington State Department of Transportation not only carries the load that roads are clear, but that the residents of the state to get safely to their loved ones, especially during peak travel times during the holiday.

In 08, met its website some capacity and availability issues and they need to replace their legacy Cisco Content Switching devices. They evaluated several alternatives to many of the leading suppliers and opted for NetScaler. The rest is history.

We have just a case study, published following the journey of the department with NetScaler.

NetScaler ensures that traffic reports and web cams are available for residents on the Department's website available. In addition, they were able to expand the use of NetScaler to support more of their critical internal systems that include Microsoft Exchange, Lync and SharePoint. If the department needs PCI compliance for their ferry reservation system, NetScaler AppFirewall was the obvious choice to make.

For our Washingtonian friends in the north, drive safely and happy holidays ... and the next time you are at the DOT site, remember NetScaler Rocks!
