What we know so far with a Skype for Business in a Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop environment?
- the same experience: the Citrix RealTime Optimization Pack for Skype for Business offers the same experience in a RDS / VDI implementation than traditional PC deployment
- hybrid deployment. Citrix RealTime Optimization Pack for Skype for Business offers the same experience regardless of whether both user RDS / VDI to be executed or only one user at RDS / VDI and the other on a conventional PC
- Conference Calling: Citrix realtime optimization Pack for Skype for Business offers the same experience in a 3 -way or multi-party call
This leads us to the next question, which I have received packet with respect to the optimization .:
we still need an Edge Server with Citrix realTime Optimization Pack for Skype for Business?
As a consultant, one of the most common answers I can be heard at any given question: "It depends." I like to be unique, so I try to avoid the answer is "It depends." My version of this answer is ... "Maybe."
let us first look at a native VDI implementation.
In this case, the Skype for Business Edge server is not used as a Skype client, is on the virtual desktop, which on the internal LAN to the Skype server is. The voice / video also goes between the virtual desktops.
But what happens when we the Citrix RealTime Optimization Pack?
implement
Same situation. The Edge Server is not used, because the SIP communication is done from the virtual desktop to the Skype server, all are located in the internal network. The voice / video is done between the endpoint devices again by the edge server to bypass.
What situations where only one user on a virtual desktop, and the other on a traditional PC?
the traditional PC needs to access the Skype server on the internal network. The Edge server is required to transmit the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), but once the session begins, the voice / video communication occurs directly between the two endpoint devices to bypass the Edge server.
And finally, what 3-way or multi-party calling?
In this scenario, the voice / video will happen the Edge Server on the way into the audio and video conferencing servers.
to answer the question: "Shall we still need an Edge Server with Citrix RealTime Optimization Pack."
Maybe
