In the wake of the Bug heartbleed, many Golden Frog customers reached to see if the Golden Frog services were affected and if customers need to take action. First, be assured all Golden Frog services are currently safe Bug heartbleed. VyprVPN and the website Golden Frog have never used the vulnerable SSL libraries pulsation TLS use. Dump trucks SSL libraries have been patched April 8, 2014, and new SSL key for the service were generated and successfully deployed. However, due to the nature of the bug, we still recommend all customers change their passwords , especially if you used Dump Truck. Change your password "
Our applications using OpenSSL 1.0.1e, which is vulnerable to Bug heartbleed for OpenVPN connections. However, even if the applications use a vulnerable version of OpenSSL, customer information is not in danger. iOS 8 launched today, but unfortunately our VyprVPN for iOS will not work with iOS 8 and can result in your Internet connectivity is temporarily broken . If you already have a VyprVPN profile installed on your iOS 8 device, please make sure to first remove your profile and follow the VPN iOS manual setup instructions in our Support section.
Since the WWDC, we tested several iOS 8 beta, including the Gold Master, trying to provide a solution to this problem. We also sent several bugs tickets to Apple, but unfortunately they have not provided an adequate response that will solve this severe connectivity problem.
Currently, when you upgrade to iOS 8 with a VyprVPN profile installed, VyprVPN will connect instantly. However, when you open the application and try to disconnect (or try to disconnect via the Golden Frog Control Panel), our servers will kill your VPN session, but iOS 8 devices do not recognize the server has killed the session and will always try to send traffic through the VPN. This causes the operating system to attempt to route traffic over a connection that does not exist and will translate your Internet connection being temporarily broken . Not good.

Last week, TorrentFreak reported that Netflix is cracking down on VPN users. They said Netflix bowed to pressure from film studios and try to limit the cases of people around the world using a VPN to access the Netflix content that is available only in the United States. Many journalists saw TorrentFreak article and ran with the story.
We were skeptical about the report in TorrentFreak from the start. They published their article after speaking with a single VPN provider. Blocking VPN services was limited to the Android application of Netflix, and was apparently temporary. It took a few days, but Netflix has finally confirmed our skepticism and debunked the TorrentFreak story.
This is important because VyprVPN can be the best friend of a Netflix customer. Many customers of Golden Frog relate much better streaming experience on Netflix with VyprVPN without it because they can bypass their ISP network congestion and throttle defeat.
ISP in all countries use deep packet inspection (DPI) for identity Internet traffic so they can strangle or block streaming services like Netflix. Golden Frog is a neutral network and does not discriminate protocols or applications of the devices. This means that we do not control the traffic of our user. VyprVPN acts as a "Virtual ISP" by traffic encryption and defeat DPI to keep the ISP to identify Internet traffic such as streaming content from Netflix. If your ISP can not identify your traffic, it can not slow down and users receive a better overall streaming experience.
Another issue that concerns us about the report TorrentFreak (and subsequent coverage in other outlets) is striking fear into the VPN users. We had some customers ask us if we expect Netflix will go on the offensive against the VPN users. The answer to this question is why "no" .:

The Thai government plans to set up a "single Internet gateway" that would allow them to control all information entering and leaving the country. With the new system, the government would not need to ask ISPs to block sites, but be able to do themselves - allowing ISPs and users without control. This proposal also includes changes to the existing laws related to Internet, which makes her even more far reaching.

It mandates that citizens install a "security certificate" on both phones and computers, allowing for access to encrypted data from foreign servers "circumvent encryption protocols such as HTTPS and SSL." this practice is set to take effect on 1 January 2016.
Unfortunately, this is not the first country modeling their Internet practices after great firewall of China. earlier this year, Thailand announced plans for a great firewall of its own.

For many years, people have embraced the Open Source Software (OSS) is inherently more secure and more reliable that closed source software (CSS). There are people whose entire lives are built around this concept as a crusade, and we had our share of heckling from the crowd on the fact that there is much to VyprVPN is closed source.
As a company, we certainly support the promotion of OSS. It has enabled us to successfully deliver Internet-based services in many online markets for over two decades. We were among the first pioneers from the FAI in 1994. Heartbleed in OpenSSL, Shellsock in bash, and failure to getaddrinfo in glibc have been shown to have many years of security vulnerabilities with potential for remote operation. These security flaws, in existence for years, visible to all who would care about watching, but only recently exposed, should give everyone pause. Linux, our preferred operating system OSS, and a large amount of OSS support, which works above, is more or less secure than any modern operating system.
There are two areas where OSS is gaining hold of CSS: the first is in my ability to see what the software is doing by inspecting the code. However, there are plenty codebases where OSS developers thought darkening was more important than readability - or, at least, I hope that what they were thinking. Second, because I need the code and I can compile myself, OSS is better to let me change the behavior of the program to suit my needs. These two things are practically impossible with CSS.
A gray area in this debate is whether or not OSS can fix security vulnerabilities more quickly than CSS. It certainly goes to reason that once a security vulnerability is known, everyone can enter and submit a patch. Reality (February 2016) glibc vulnerability this month (CVE-2015-7547) was recorded with cve.mitre.org September 29, 2015, but has been publicly announced and set February 16, 2016, with some distributions do not get patches released until February 17. I'm not sure why this scale security breach took 4.5 months to resolve. It certainly recalls that OSS is not a cure-fast response time for security vulnerabilities.
Is it easier to find security flaws in open source because we can see and inspect the code? Likewise, is it harder to do the same in CSS because we can not see the code?
