As your AWS applications and your budget -

asked a few customers recently to protect, if we can help reduce the cost of application security in the cloud. already understand these organizations that although cloud providers like AWS offer fairly good protection against generic network level attacks, the accessible Internet hosted applications on cloud platforms to narrow attacks remain fully susceptible to a legitimate application traffic masquerade. It is therefore essential to identify a web application firewall in front of these applications for deployment in an intelligent way and block all malicious traffic.

standardized My Account on Imperva WAF as their choice, so I took the following analysis to determine how much we could save instead using NetScaler VPX. Here are my results.

Is it safe, a, with a powerful WAF engine to replace pure-play WAF product like Imperva NetScaler ADC as one of its many functions?

to answer this, I. NSS Labs latent which undertook a study of the various options leading WAF recently NSS confirmed that NetScaler is an effective WAF platform and gave him a "recommended" (Imperva received a "neutral" rating)

NetScaler up to 50% cheaper than on Imperva AWS!

. For commercial analysis, I compared the cost of operating Imperva & NetScaler straight from the AWS Marketplace over 6 and 12 months for a number of different traffic loads The results show consistently NetScaler is much cheaper than Imperva, and the savings escalate over time

NetScaler is consistently less expensive than Imperva in AWS - 6 Months
NetScaler is consistently less expensive than Imperva in AWS -. 6 months
NetScaler comes in at a fraction of the cost of Imperva over 12 months or more.
NetScaler at a fraction of the cost of Imperva takes about 12 months or more.

Graphical representation of the total cost per Mbps of application firewall protection makes it crystal clear that NetScaler delivers the best price performance for each flow

Comparative Cost per Mbps - NetScaler vs. Imperva in AWS over 12 months
comparing cost per mbps -. NetScaler vs. Imperva in AWS over 12 months

BYO license provides even greater savings over 10 months or more.

The rule of thumb: if your VPX run for 10 months in AWS or more, you are probably better off buying a perpetual VPX license from Citrix and using the "BYO license" plan option in AWS. 10-11 months is about the crossing point where the achieved hours AWS costs the list price of the perpetual license. Existing Citrix customers entitled to promote discounts on perpetual licenses, which could bring the crossover point forward to 6 months or even earlier

report methodology [1945022[
Prices are standard published AWS market prices from June 2016 for workloads in AWS Australia runs (ie closest to my customers) model selection .: for the specified traffic, select the less expensive value of product licenses. For example, if the available models capable of 100 and 500 Mbps are respectively, and the 500 Mbps costs 3.5x as much as 100 Mbps, we would 3x 100 voting for 300Mbps and 1 500 for 400 Mbps. VPC Selection If the traffic load of more than 50% of its capacity will be on a WAF example, we have chosen a high spec VPC. Otherwise, we have selected the minimum VPC. Imperva management VPC is if we need multiple devices to treat minimum specification ELB .: the specified rate, we assume that we have to balance load multiple Imperva instances a ELB instance. Management: We have included a single instance of a VPC and management license for Imperva. NetScaler management platform is not required for this solution. (NetScaler management VMs are at no cost to users NetScaler anyway).
