Automate NetScaler NITRO API and PowerShell -
This is a guest post by Esther Barthel, senior technology consultant at PepperByte

as Citrix consultant, I am privileged to visit various customers and get to see a glimpse of their "kitchens", as they set up their iT departments and processes to manage their end-customer services and iT infrastructure. to use To my surprise, a lot of customers that I can still be seen to rely on the provision of infrastructure components on manual processes, for example, manual instructions of 37 pages or more to roll out new virtual machines in production.

In an age Request in the end user a faster delivery of applications and data, as they have become accustomed to instant delivery of applications from the public app stores, it is difficult to sell to explain that a service request will be processed last several days. Not to mention the safe tolerance that leads each manual deployment that could lead to dissatisfied customers as human error inadvertently attempted service level.

Over a year ago, I was fortunate to help a customer, providing automated processes for IaaS and PaaS infrastructure services. There are many solutions support available IT automation and orchestration, so I do not go into too much detail about the pros and cons of each solution. The lesson I have learned during the tool selection process, was that it takes to get it all over down the right (support) processes, which is like any solution nor a supporting tool.

But what I did was fascinated by the fact that if you break any orchestration and automation solution to its core, it runs on the automation of simple tasks in programmable scripts down and linking these tasks together, to automate your IT processes. And so the first DevOps team was born, and we have focused on the manual actions in process flow definition, which were translated into scripts to automate every step of the process.

My scripting language of choice was PowerShell and although I still feel like a beginner, I have for the various Citrix components script automates installations managed as XenDesktop, storefront and director, to be a lot of fun , turned out to be.

and when I worked to create a NetScaler implementation Command Center using the configuration script, I ran into this great blog post series on the Citrix blog to Automate NetScaler configurations NITRO REST API and PowerShell by Santiago Cardenas. This five-part series even has a downloadable PowerShell module that contains a variety of functions automatically add basic configuration settings to a NetScaler.

I played with the module and very soon I found myself more functions in the module adding not only add new configurations, but will be able to fully manage the NetScaler configuration with add, delete, update and features to read.

Although it is far from a complete PowerShell module, such as the NetScaler has so many configurable features and settings, I am happy to share my work with the community and even more my enthusiasm the automatic installation options Citrix infrastructure components, to be able to expand the NetScaler configuration than by.

so why only a blog post to write about it, if the Citrix Synergy podium that enthusiasm can share?
