SCOM Management Pack NetScaler resource consumption and Performance Overview -

increase in popularity of Citrix NetScaler provides a significant change in the sense that the monitoring of the product is becoming increasingly important. This is where Citrix SCOM Management Pack for NetScaler (NetScaler Management Pack) comes into the picture.

NetScaler Management Pack is an availability and performance management solution, end-to-end service monitoring expanded capabilities of Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) Citrix NetScaler infrastructure.

many questions regarding NetScaler Management Pack emerged recently, namely take about scalability, resource consumption and performance. For this reason our SCOM Management Pack team a number of activities, including measurements and analysis carried out answers to monitor bandwidth of the product and its possible impact on the monitored systems to provide.

Our test lab environment was as follows:

  • A SCOM management server with a SCOM resource pool
  • Two devices NetScaler VPX

because SCOM management server for NetScaler device monitoring SCOM, plays an important role in the whole process. It is therefore crucial to configure SCOM infrastructure in the best possible way. To simplify infrastructure planning we used System Center Operations Manager 2012 Sizing Helper tool. You can find this tool on the following website: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/momteam/2012/04/01/operations-manager-2012-sizing-helper-tool/

For current measurements Windows Performance Monitor is used. Two services were determined to be critical of the NetScaler management pack list:

  • NetScaler Management Pack Agent (MPNSMonitorSvc)
  • Operations Manager Agent / Microsoft Monitoring Agent (Health)

Our conclusions on the basis of measurements and a detailed analysis, are short:

  • include the monitored objects do not affect significantly the percentage of processor time by the two services used (MPNSMonitorSvc Health) ,
  • On the SCOM Management Server computer, it should be available approximately 3 GB of physical memory for the common needs of both services (MPNSMonitorSvc, Health).

In situations with more than 14,000 monitored objects, we noticed considerable strain during workflow executions on the Health Service. The reason was, large amount of workflows on Health, which could not be processed, thus causing data to be dropped.
