If Netflix Cracks down on proxies, access to content is not the only thing you'll lose -

I was surprised at the announcement yesterday that Netflix:

"Some members use proxies or" unblockers "to access the titles available outside their territory. To solve this problem, we use the same or similar measures of other companies do. This technology continues to evolve and we evolve with it. This means that in the coming weeks, those using proxies and unblockers will only be able to access the service in the country where they are currently. We are confident that this change will not affect the members not to use proxies. We look forward to offering all our content anywhere, so consumers can enjoy all Netflix without using a proxy. That is the objective that we will keep pushing "

Their announcement raised some immediate questions :.

1. What about the customers Netflix that use VPN to overcome the limitation by their ISPs or intentional network interference by bandwidth providers?
the battles between Netflix and ISPs have been well documented. ISPs use Deep Packet Inspection (DPI ) unencrypted Internet connection speeds to strangle Netflix or intentionally interfere with Netflix bandpass suppliers. Unfortunately, the end users are caught in the middle of this battle between the pioneering efforts of Netflix and attempts providers to retain their historic monopoly over the last mile.

Colin Nederkoorn, a frustrated customer Verizon and VyprVPN users, published a great article and video showing how VyprVPN enabled it to obtain 10x faster speeds on Netflix. Thousands of users responded, and many wonder how a VPN actually increases speeds.

I also use our router VyprVPN App to my house to overcome the limitation by my ISP. It is important to note that Netflix or HBO streaming requires only 4-6 Mbps. Most users have a 20-100 Mbps connection but House of Cards buffers and yet is pixelated. ISPs are rip off their customers when they Throttle is a different conversation, but more and more people are using VPN to overcome the limitation.

The fact is, more and more VyprVPN users inside and outside of the United States tell us that their speeds actually increase when using VyprVPN. VyprVPN users are effectively using them as "Virtual ISP" for faster speeds, but they also get security and privacy because of the encrypted connection. Common sense says that the speeds are inherently slow because of the encryption overhead, but it is currently at the network layer to explain the increased speed.

When you encrypt your connection, your ISP can not see your traffic or what you do online. This makes it much harder for them to throttle your connection depending on your activity. With VyprVPN you can achieve significantly faster speeds when streaming content. With VyprVPN you can run at maximum speed, with less risk of buffering and slow memory, the pixelated connections.

2. What Netflix users who travel abroad, but can not use a service for which they paid?

Golden Frog is a global company, so I sometimes travel abroad for conferences or meetings. After a long day, I like to go back to the hotel and watch Netflix. But I have to use VyprVPN for watching Netflix abroad. It just looks, though. I have a Netflix account USA (and billing address) so I should be able to watch Netflix. If Netflix blocking VPNs, then I must submit either Wi-Fi insecurity hotel or watch TV in a foreign language. Why can not I just use the service I paid for when I'm traveling?

3. Why point the finger proxies or VPNs when Netflix can use customer billing information to display relevant content to users?

I am a Netflix customer and off for more than a decade. I love Netflix and I love their thrust in creating and publishing their own content. "Make a murderer" is a fantastic example of why I continue to be customer Netflix.

As Netflix customer, I know they raise my billing information, including my address and country. Why not use Netflix customer billing information to display relevant content to users?

Here at Golden Frog, we use the customer billing information to reduce fraud and abuse of our network. For example, if a customer signs using an Australian IP address but provides an address to the US sending, we can prevent the client to use our VyprVPN service until they provide more information to our team.

Golden Frog is a much smaller company than Netflix. Certainly, Netflix has the resources to build a system based on the billing address. As the saying goes, "The simplest solution is usually the correct one."

What this means for VPN users?

It is difficult to Netflix's statement if they consider a VPN proxy. We certainly do not consider VyprVPN a proxy. But if Netflix considers VPN proxies and VPNs blocks, then they are greatly diminished the privacy and security of their customers while simultaneously subjecting them to abusive practices of ISPs to the Netflix service and its users.

It is perfectly legal to watch Netflix on a VPN service. In fact, many VyprVPN customers around the world connect to a server location in the country to get past an ISP throttling their streaming traffic. These VPN users are not accessing any geo-restricted content. They are simply being proactive in taking steps to optimize their Internet experience.

Fortunately, we do have problems with Netflix access through VyprVPN now.
