Continuous Encryption battle: Google Android phones Ordained unlock 9 -

Battle FBI against Apple's over for now, but now the emphasis may be on Google. Court documents recently released by the ACLU show that this is not the first time that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has tried to order a technology company to unlock phones for them. The documents show that Google has received similar orders to release at least 9 Android phones, with the FBI citing Act 1789 All writs to justify their actions (which is the same document cited in Apple's case). There have been 63 confirmed cases, covering over a considerable number of years in which the FBI has asked Google and Apple to help them unlock a device.

Although the outcome of the case is unclear, it is well known that Google can remotely reset the Android device passwords, as made public by the New York District Attorney. Unlike Apple, Google can reset passcodes for about 74% of users applications. Technical differences between Google and Apple are partly due to the fact that Google makes the operating system used by Android devices, but it works on phones that are manufactured by third parties. Apple, on the other hand, creates their devices and runs on its own operating system

Google addressed the controversy :. "We are looking closely at the subpoenas and court orders to ensure they meet both the letter and spirit of the law," a Google spokesman said. "However, we have never received an order like Apple All Writs Act recently fought the applications we build new tools that actively undermine the safety of our products .... We firmly oppose such an order . "

Only time will tell how this information will affect future cases involving the FBI, Apple and Google. A Golden Frog, we are for privacy and strongly opposed to compromise the security of the user through the backdoor encryption. Learn more about our position in Apple vs FBI
