With over a billion people connected to Facebook, we must assume that some of them are criminals. (Criminals are people with friends too!) But the criminals we have to be concerned about are those who create all sorts of scams designed to do all of you get to open your wallet to click links so you can enter our personal information allows them to infect your devices

this is a preview of what they can do to get access to you and your Facebook account :.

Phishing:

emails coming into your inbox right now might actually come from Facebook because by default, you allow the contact to your settings notification. The problem is that, at any time, fraudsters can reproduce these emails and you can never know what is real and what is false.

  • Never click links in Facebook emails. Instead, simply login via your favorites menu or use a password manager. All you need to do is there in your notifications menu.
  • Disable email notifications. Do you really need 20 emails a day telling you that someone just liked or commented on what you posted? Seriously? Go feed the homeless if you have lots of time on your hands.
  • Stay out of your spam folders. Most ISPs and email providers do a very good job of filtering spam and phishing emails. But if you go into spam and start clicking away, you will yourself in difficulty

infected links :.

Criminals know how to draw your attention to get you to click on links. They write copy that is supposed to evoke emotional responses that send you deep into their rabbit hole.

This status update is a perfect example of someone who is infected now because the user probably clicked on this and now share it with everyone, like a virus. All this screams me!

  • Do not click without thinking on the links simply because you need to know what they will show you. Be aware of scams and frauds and scammers know pay attention.
  • Keep up to date browsers, antivirus, antimalware, antiphishing and firewall.

Wireless hacks: Each time you use free Wi-Fi, there is always the possibility of your device, your data and your account may be compromised. Free Wi-Fi is inherently insecure; it has no encryption, and data are there for criminals to sniff.

  • Set up encryption on your home or office router. At a minimum, use WPA or WPA2 to secure your data.
  • Using a VPN (virtual private network), such as Hotspot Shield VPN that locks and encrypts your wireless communications. Furthermore, Hotspot Shield also detects and blocks malware.
