It also motivates us to constantly improve our service.
We first began to realize the impact of Hotspot Shield during the Egyptian revolution last year. Mubarak's regime cracked down on the Internet and mobile communication, and we immediately saw the Egyptian citizens download Hotspot Shield to circumvent these restrictions to gain access to blocked sites and Internet services such as Facebook, Twitter and Google. Users in Egypt increased from 100,000 to over 1,000,000 overnight.

In many cases, the Egyptians could access Facebook, Twitter and Google on the same day they were blocked by the government. Social media is an important tool for the revolution to succeed, and it is gratifying to know that we were able to help.
